The Dog House Grooming Diploma

Our 20-day course is aimed at those who wish to learn the practical skills needed to enable them to open their own salon, either at a commercial premises or within their home. 

 

The course focuses entirely on building your practical skills when grooming the common breeds that groomers encounter. You will be trained to become competent in activities such as bathing, drying, scissoring, clipping, nail trimming and ear plucking.  

 

Your will be instructed by qualified and experienced tutors and receive regular feedback on your progress.

CITY AND GUILDS LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE FOR DOG GROOMING ASSISTANTS

The City and Guilds Level 2 qualification requires no previous experience.

This course gives you 10 days on-site practical tuition PLUS guided home study through our online platform and tutorials, until the required guided learning hours are achieved.

Units you will cover include:

  1. Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing including health checking

  2. Bathe and clean dogs

  3. Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals

  4. Control and restrain animals

  5. Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling

  6. Basic trimming of a dog’s coat using scissors and clippers

To achieve this qualification, you will be required to complete both theory and practical based assessments.

CITY AND GUILDS LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN DOG GROOMING

You must have completed the Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants to complete this qualification.

This course gives you 25 days on-site practical tuition PLUS guided home study through our online platform and tutorials, until the required guided learning hours are achieved.

Units you will cover include:

  1. Health and safety, legislation and code of practice for the dog grooming industry

  2. Preparing, styling and finishing a dog

  3. Health checking and handling a dog in a dog grooming environment

  4. Customer service and record keeping in a dog grooming environment

You will also undertake a one day canine first aid course as part of your qualification

To achieve this qualification, you will be required to complete both theory and practical based assessments.

CITY AND GUILDS LEVELS 2 AND 3 COMBINED

Save money buy enrolling on the City and Guilds Level 2 and 3 combined course for £6050* (saving £650). This will allow you to go from no experience to qualified groomer in approximately 35 days

iPET NETWORK LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN DOG GROOMING AND SALON MANAGEMENT

 

This qualification is designed for candidates who wish to gain the skills and knowledge to prepare, style and finish a range of dog breeds, understand health and safety in a dog grooming salon, practice business management and gain skills in canine emergency first aid. The course is delivered over a minimum of 30 days practical training with additional theory work to be completed at home.

 

iPET Network are proud to have developed this NEW qualification in the canine and feline sector. Over the period of 30 days you will groom groom at least 20 dogs to include a minimum of 10 different breeds, covering 6 different coat types but often many more.  There are no pre-requisites to starting the qualification, meaning you can join at level 3 without having completed a lower level (level 2) course first which can be a huge cost saving.

 

You will be trained in practical skills such as prepping, bathing, scissoring, clipping, styling and nail trimming on a variety of dog breeds.

Uniquely, you are continually assessed via practical demonstration and coursework. There is no requirement to sit a formal exam in order to achieve the qualification. This holistic approach has been welcomed by candidates to Training Providers from across the UK, Ireland and Internationally. iPET Network designed the qualification to have an excellent balance of theoretical and practical learning. Feedback suggests that this qualification takes the pressure out of adult learning and this approach appeals to a wide range of candidates. The Dog House are striving to improve industry standards by ensuring candidates walk out fully qualified, confident and competent in dog grooming.

 

The iPET Network Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management will demonstrate to an employer or the general public that you have the necessary technical skills and knowledge to successfully groom a range of dog breeds. This is a formal, regulated, nationally recognised qualification that will remain relevant throughout your career and can only be achieved by reaching the required skill level. It has been designed specifically for those looking to become professional dog groomers or those who already groom dogs (as a hobby or career) but do not currently hold a nationally recognised qualification. This approach and elements are unique to our course syllabus making the qualification a more rounded and robust qualification.

 

A fast-track option is also available for experienced groomers seeking a formal qualification to confirm their skill level or those who have undertaken other qualifications but see the benefit in gaining the iPET Network qualification.

DO YOU HAVE ANY OPEN EVENTS I CAN ATTEND?

WHICH DAYS DO YOU OFFER TRAINING?

We train from Thursday through to Saturday, 08:30-17:30.

CAN I FIT MY TRAINING AROUND MY WORK?

Absolutely! We are flexible as to how many days a week you'd like to attend. You may wish to do a regular day for as long as it takes, or days to fit around your shift pattern, or perhaps you'd like to book block weeks. We try to be as accommodating as possible.

CAN I SPREAD THE COST INTO SMALLER PAYMENTS?
Yes you can. All of this can be arranged with our student administrator. We do require a deposit to secure your space, but we can discuss and agree on a payment plan when we know how many days a week you plan to train with us, and therefore how long it will take you to complete your course.

I DON’T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE. DOES THAT MATTER?
Not at all! We will start right at the beginning and teach you everything you need to know, however, if you wish to complete the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, you must have completed the Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants.

WOULD I HAVE TO PROVIDE MY OWN DOGS TO WORK ON?

We supply all the dogs you need to complete your training and qualification.

WOULD I HAVE TO BRING MY OWN EQUIPMENT?

We supply basic starter equipment and help you decide which equipment to upgrade to. You can purchase this

equipment (we help and advise only) and then use it through the course should you wish.
